Naval Museum presents an exhibition about the San Sebastián artist RAFAEL MUNOA, who portrayed, by means of 9 pictorial murals, the hunting of two whales which took place in waters between Getaria and Zarautz in 1763.
With expressionism in the use of colour as a starting point, and thanks to the dynamism of the images and their capacity to transmit emotions and feelings, MUNOA places the spectator inside a real whaling scene.
The paintings, which belong to Getaria Town Council, were produced to celebrate the 200th anniversary of this historic event, which even led to a bitter lawsuit between the crews of the two towns.
