Congress held in Kulturgunea of Pasai Donibane, on May 17 and 18, within the program of the Maritime Festival of Pasaia.
The Congress tries to evaluate the supply of forest products for the Royal Navy, with the intention of analyzing its structure, trying to establish the products, their origin, the participating dealers and traders, the distribution and financing networks at a regional and global level, mainly in relation to the contribution of masts, wood, oars, tars, pit or barriquería for clavetería, for the Royal Navy and its arsenals.
In short, it is about analyzing the role of forest supplies in the construction of the Hispanic fiscal-military state during the eighteenth century, with all its regional, national and international implications. The perspective intends to be geographically wide, that is why the proposals cover geographical areas such as the Philippines, the Caribbean, the Pyrenees, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, etc.
The congress is promoted by the Research Group "Basque Country, Europe and America" and the Imperial Network, and has the help of the Vice-rectorate of the Gipuzkoa campus of the UPV / EHU, the University of Navarra, the Naval Museum of San Sebastian, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Pasaia City Council and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
Alvaro Aragón Ruano (professor of the Department of Medieval, Modern and American History at the University of the Basque Country).
