The Basque Maritime Museum presented “Leopoldina Rosa: a story of today”, an exhibition which comes from and was produced by the Zumalakarregi Museum in Ormaiztegi, a dual look at the phenomenon of migration between the 19th century and the present time.

The Museum wishes to publicise a practically unknown episode in our seafaring history: the assistance by the Basque Country to the thirteen British colonies in their struggle against Great Britain to win independence in 1776.

The Basque Maritime Museum has recouped the story of Juan de Alcega, an illustrious Gipuzkoa personality who has now been forgotten. He was the author of the first tailors’ treatise published all over Europe.
27 November 2019 to 10 January 2021
It conducts a review of this major event from a different perspective, thanks to research by the museum’s director Xabier Alberdi and the resources used and created for the exhibition.
