The Basque Maritime Museum is opening a new txoko in its attic, next to the kofradia. It is a space where the sea, small-scale fishing and Basque maritime culture come together.

You will have the opportunity to learn about small-scale and inshore fishing in the Basque Country, the species caught, the fishing seasons, the techniques used, and the people who make it all possible. Interactive content and infographics show how fishing seasons are organised, how sustainability is ensured, and how this tradition – which forms part of the Basque maritime and cultural identity – is kept alive.

The inclusion of this project at the Basque Maritime Museum – carried out in collaboration with Kofradia-Itsas Etxea – is of great importance, as its aim is to highlight the role of fishing as an essential part of our maritime history, heritage and culture.
