The Basques and the Pacific Homage to Andrés de Urdaneta

2009

This book reports the history of Basques in the Pacific and Far East from the 16th century to the present day. In addition to the feats of Elcano, Andrés de Urdaneta and Miguel López de Legazpi, the Basque presence in the Pacific basin has been recurrent and constant over time. Since the 16th century, working across a range of trades, a large number of Basques helped shape the history of the Philippines and other island territories colonised by Spain.
