The Basque Association in Iceland, which celebrates the common history of Iceland and seafarers from the Basque Country, intends to establish a Basque Centre at the memorial site of Djúpavík in the Strandir region of the Icelandic Westfjords. This region has the closest connection with the Basque seafarers who went to Iceland.
